WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. (May 14, 2018) – Tanner Thorson and the TRI-C MACHINE team scored their first win together Friday evening at Silver Dollar Speedway following a late-race pass.
“It feels good to finally break through these podium finishes and get a win. This whole team has been working really hard since the beginning of the season to get me more comfortable and our runs have been getting better and better. We struggled early in the year, but lately we have been improving so much,” Thorson stated.
Thorson, who qualified second out of 30 cars, wheeled the No. 3C to a second place finish from fourth in the heat race. Per format, the top eight drivers in points for the evening participated in a redraw to determine their starting spots for the 30-lap feature event. Thorson drew a seven and would start from that spot.
“I always say that I don’t want to start on the front row, but starting in the fourth row isn’t my favorite either. Thankfully my car was really good on the start and restarts,” Thorson added.
With his eyes on the front of the pack, Thorson quickly worked his way forward before going on to pass 51-time Silver Dollar Speedway winner, Andy Forsberg, on lap 17 for the top spot. Surviving many caution flags and restarts, Thorson was able to secure the lead and tally his first win of the season with his new team. Thorson’s first ever wing sprint car victory was also at the quarter-mile track back in 2015.
“I like to call Silver Dollar my home track because it’s where I grew up watching races almost every Friday night. It’s always going to be rewarding for me to win there,” Thorson commented. “To be able to compete with the top drivers in California says a lot about this team. Luckily, my crew chief, Lee [Lindgren], has made the transition from midgets to wing cars really easy on me. I have to thank Spike Chassis for working with us and providing great cars. I also want to say thanks to Clyde [Lamar] for believing in me and giving me the opportunity to run the legendary 3C. I’m feeling really good about the rest of the season.”
Thorson and the TRI-C MACHINE No. 3C team return to action May 18 and 19 at Thunderbowl Raceway.
